IMPERIOUS.
The "Salon" · By Submission Only

A private “evaluation,” conducted under protest.

The House has determined that outside roasters may submit their work for review. The present correspondent was not consulted on this decision, nor on the word “Salon,” which he considers generous.

The Protocol

Three regrettable steps. All yours.

Nothing about this process has been designed for your comfort. It has been designed for ours.

I.

You send one bean.

A single bean, by post, to an address we shall provide upon application. More than one will be returned, or discarded, at our election.

II.

We evaluate.

The bean is considered over a period we do not disclose. Do not enquire. Enquiries extend the period.

III.

A tasting note is published.

A formal note appears in the record. A plaque is offered. Both are final.

The Plaque

A mark of distinction. In the narrowest sense.

Suitable for framing. Designed to hang in the roaster's shop — a mark of distinction, in the sense that we have distinguished you from those we ignored entirely.

Submission

Submit for Evaluation.

We shall acknowledge your submission at a time that suits us. Fields marked with nothing at all are nevertheless required.

One bean. Sent by post. An address shall be provided upon receipt of this form — not before. Roasters who send samples in advance of instruction are declined without review.
Submissions are final. Withdrawals are not entertained.
— Received — Your submission has been received. We shall contact you at a time that suits us. Do not follow up.
The Record · Previous Evaluations

No evaluations have yet been published.

This is not a failing on our part.

When a tasting note is published, it shall appear here — in full, without softening, and in the order we prefer. The present correspondent looks forward to this with what he has been told is an inappropriate degree of anticipation.
